GUIDELINES ON OVERCOMING THE HABIT OF PROCRASTINATION

Overcoming procrastination is the seventh step to generating massive wealth. Procrastination, the opposite of decision, is a common foe. Practically every human being must conquer it. People who fail to generate substantial wealth, without exception, have an issue with decision making. They either take too long to make a decision, or having arrived at one, they change their minds frequently. The Bible states that, “a double-minded man is unstable in all his ways”. James 1:9 There are some guidelines to assist you in this most common and yet critical area.

 1) Do not be easily swayed by the opinion of others. You will of course have your own personal Mastermind group, which you will have chosen carefully. However, you have a brain of your own. Stand by your decisions.

2) Don’t talk too much! Close your mouth and open your eyes and ears. This may seem like a contradiction of the first guideline, however it is important to acknowledge that just because you have gained some knowledge in a particular area, does not mean that you know it all. Always be open minded and continuously seek more information. If you talk about what you are doing, you give others the opportunity to discourage you or to try to defeat you because of envy.

3) Remember that making a decision in business can involve and very often does, taking risks. Quite often, the greater the risk, the greater the reward. Entrepreneurs take calculated risks.

Those who are capable of making fast accurate decisions know what they want and they, for the most part, get it. Leaders in every sphere, make quick and firm decisions. The habit of being indecisive is formed in our youth. How many of us remember putting off homework assignments until the last moment. Procrastination at it’s best! To make quick accurate decisions requires courage. Success comes from making regular, consistent steps towards our goals. Procrastination defeats consistency. No matter how you may feel on a given day, be sure to remain focused and to complete the tasks that you had pre-determined to achieve. We all struggle with this from time to time. It is not overcome in one act, but rather by a steady consciousness that we are determined not to let old Mr. Procrastination destroy our destiny.

How many families are forever grateful that on that fateful day over the Hudson River, Captain Sullenberger made that fast accurate decision, saving his life and the lives of all the passengers aboard the ill fated flight.
